Very 8)

I'm afraid I belted past you in my 156 Sportwagon at a less than sedate pace, but admired your D3 for long enough to spot the sticker on the back advertising this site Very Happy

Still trying to decide between a D3 and a Touareg....... Twisted Evil

I may just take you up on that! Whereabouts are you? I'm Wool/Bovington way.

There's no contest as a true off-road beasty (D3 every time), but my needs are for an exec type car that can handle farm tracks, trips to the alps and lengthy cross-country jaunts (Exeter, St Albans, Nottingham) with comfort. My wife has an L200 for the roughty-toughty stuff (daily use and abuse in the fields on the estate we live on) and as long as whatever I buy can negotiate the mile of unmade track from my place to the road in all weathers I'll be happy.

It seems at any given price, the Touareg dips out on air suspension & terrain response but gains in cabin lovliness and toys. It will be a few months before I splash the cash (sale of old house moving very slowly) so I've plenty of time to test drive both.......

Not yet. Extensive drooling over brochures and a few minutes sat in and looking around the Treg and the D3 in dealer showrooms has been the limit of my enquiries so far. I just find the cabin of the Treg to be more, well, plush than the (relatively) utilitarian offering of the D3. Not that the D3 interior is poor by any stretch of the imagination, just the Treg interior seems more prestigious. IMHO of course.

I'm not keen to test-drive either until I'm in a position to slap a large cheque on the salesman's desk. Used to sell cars for a living and nothing wound up the salesman more than a protracted "gestation" from test-drive to order. If it drags out too much, you lose the interest of the salesman and their desire for your money wanes. If you want to do a keen deal, be prepared to test-drive and order on the same day, particularly if you tell the salesman you will be back-to-back with a competitor's car!

Will do Dom, thanks.

As for the RRS suggested further up the page (tic, I know), I don't play football, run a nightclub or sell illicit substances for a living, so I don't think I'm allowed to buy one. Looking in the driveways around Sandbanks I can only assume that Westover's used car lot is littered with discarded Cayennes! Rolling Eyes
