Windscreen pillar trim

Crossing the M62 in high winds at the weekend, loud bang as the pillar trim from the drivers side detached itself, whacked the bodywork and flew off never to be seen again... which was exciting Shocked

Might have a spare in the garage if you're interested
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Have you rcently had a windscreen replaced ?

These windscreen fitting companies tend to cut costs/corners on replacing the clips on these and they need to be replaced everytime they are removed

Laughing Laughing

I was crossing the long bridge over the medway on the M20 2 weeks ago and the same thing happened to mine-- but it hung on by one clip. the bang woke my son up who then screamed for the rest of the journey Rolling Eyes
I've never had a replacement windscreen or any work on it?!

Was a particularly windy day and I have to say I was going quite quickly.

the panel clips up into a slot at the top then poppers on lower down. I have to say it looked quite flimsy once it was off

Had exactly this issue after getting a new windscreen on my D2 - bleepin' A pillar trims went AWOL! Evil or Very Mad

Slightly disturbed to see the LR3 still has the same technology holding things on - or not....

I've had it happen numerous times. I replaced the clips on each occasion.

Air can stream under the cover from the windscreen side, so if you do a fair few miles into strongish winds, the pressure on the clips is too much.

I solved the issue in the end by drilling in a stainless steel screw down towards the bottom of the cover. It's not very noticeable and so far the cover has stayed on.

I'll post a picture later.
 Have a nice day!

I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the side trim and the edge of the scuttle trim (the one at the bottom of the screen) and connected them together with a small tie wrap. It's not noticeable with the bonnet down. I'm fairly sure the trim came off due to wind getting under it on the glass side, so this mod stops it lifting, and I've had no problem since. Like the others on here, the problem seems to occur at 'high' speed Wink

Hi,

This has happened to me 3 times since the car has been out of warranty - none before of course!

Never lost the trim, but on the second occasion I lost some clips so my dealer fitted a new trim as the old trim was slightly damaged anyway.

Jamo, Ridgeback_moor I would be interested to see what you did, any chance of some pictures. I know that your fixes will not stop the trim from unclipping (I think, correct me if I am wrong), but at least the trim would stay attached to the car, instead of being lost, or worse still hitting another vehicle.

Thanks.

Scotland 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

It has happened a few more times since my last post. In fact 3 times yesterday here in NE Scotland, twice at the same place going in the same direction. I was only driving at about 40 mph but the wind was blowing a bit!

I have now put 3 large blobs of Blu-Tack under the trim hoping that this might hold it in place.

Does anybody else have any suggestions?

Cheers,

Rob
