Limited Gears Available
On cold mornings I have had the following warning on the dashboard after having driven about 500 yds. Limited Gears Available, Engine Fault, Refer to dealer (not verbatim, but pretty close) It has aslo warned me once that DSC is disabled. It has only happened on cold mornings, and not every morning, to cure the problem I have to stop, remove the keys and then re-start the engine. Was Bill Gates involved in the development of the D3
Has any one else had this problem, I havent reported it to LR yet, as it seems to fix itself instantaneously with no side effects. Figured I would mention it at the next service.D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

There is a dealer fix for this, did you also get several warning lights showing?
The fix is a software update to deal with the air intake temperature mapping
Happy downloading.....

Dont know if I want the software fix, can't afford the car to be with the dealers for 2 days. Had the 15k service a few months ago, 2 hrs for the service and then 5 for the updates! Also, will the software fix delete the pre-heater setting? I have got in the habit of "blipping" the car awake with the remote 10 minutes before the timer is set for. Will be lost without it, especially when I go and see the in-laws in the Czech Republic and it is -20 D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

Should only take half hour if that for engine tune download. If its was 5 hours for updates, am guessing it was radio update, take forever.

I asked J&E “What happens when software fixes come out, will it over ride their up-gradeâ€. They said if it does they will replace the up-grade FOC. 8)In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Gearbox faults (many!)
Hi, I know it's not a D3, but the RRS S/C i'm responsible (?) for has now been at the dealer for over 10 days with the above described faults on the gearbox. They tell me 'software'. The factory is sending a tech down (eventually) as the dealer has'nt got a clue and can't repair the fault. If i'd known it was going to take this long, i'd not have handed it over! Drove fine if you flicked it over to 'command shift' first thing!
I mean, electronics + land rover, do not seem to mix too well!
Not a happy bunny!!!!
But much happier in my old 200tdi D1!!

The patch to cure the cold start issues did not remove my turbochip remap, or the pre-heater. More recently a major software download did remove the remap, which was re-installed by TC free of charge. Not checked for the pre-heater though.

You did wait for the software to finish "booting up" before starting the engine ?
It is often eays to forget and it does create software problems... Waiting for the famous "bong" before starting the engine has proven efficient for me...

some times I have the same problems with the "limited gears". My dealer told me that he had somed more of this problems. It is water ingress into the electronic device on the right hand, direct under the windscreen.
Next week I (or more exactly my car) will get a new electronic box.
