Fancy headlights

Our Disco 3 doesn't have the fancy headlights (the ones that look "around" corners). I am soon to spec a RRS so wonder whether those with this headlight option think they are worth the money ? At the launch event for the Disco 3 I atended last year the designer (called rather oddly : A Wheel) said that in his opinion these new headlights would make a major contribution to road saftey and even compared their effect to the introduction of ABS some years ago. I struggle to see how that could be. Do you know better ....? Disco 4 TDV6HSE

I have them because they came on mine. It is cool to watch the beams move. However, the Xenons spread so much light around that it is hard to see any real benefit from the movement. I honestly don't see improved illumination. I will keep looking though, as some have reported otherwise.

I have the adaptive headlights. A friend only has the non-adaptive Xeon lights. I haven't been able to see a real advantage of the adaptive headlights in any of the curve-laden mountain driving I've done.

They seemed a gimmick to begin with & on open A class roads are of little advantage - however if you drive on country roads the variable amount of light adjustment (it seems to depend on speed & steering angle) can be very valuable indeed. Really depends on your type of driving. The corner lights are likewise useful (may be standard?) but in a different context of slow junctions.

I have adaptive headlights and like them. As Ecosse said, the cornering lights (halogen 45deg lights) available in europe with the 'fancy headlights' is most beneficial. BUT on dark country roads the moving self leveling headlights are the real advantage.

Adaptive lights

I agree with the above. The lights come into their own in country lanes mainly. One thing I did notice during a trip to the big smoke was that when on the main road and turning right, the additional light shone directly at drivers in the side road. Could have been very irritating for them.
