Chaps,
I am jsut about to take the plunge and order a D4 - my first new Discovery since Old Faithfull (OF), my 1996 (P Reg) 3 door D1, which is still going strong but not really that suitable for putting nippers in the back of, and therefore being shown the door....
I'll be getting the HSE which seems to come with erveything (certainly in comparison to OF and her wind down windows) but given your collective experience - are there 'must have' options, in addition to the drop plate tow bar, which i should specify?!
All help/opinions welcome

Hi CT
depends what you want really
what are you using it for? Everyone has different ideas about what you need.....however the out of the box car with a towbar will go nearly everywhere and do most things regardless of the GS/XS/HSE badge
....I always fancied a heated steeringwheel end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Thank you for the response guys,
My D4 is going to replace the Audi A6 we have as the family car and my D1, the stalking/shooting/horsebox-towing car and therefore required to do everything!
I am looking at the Park Heating as well, seems quite an expensive option but when activated does it:
1. Heat the engine lubes and the cabin?
2. Turn on the internal fan blower to defrost the windscreen?
3. Turn on the electrics for the heated front/rear screens and the heated heats?
As an aside, i think Mrs CT is angling for the heat steering wheel...

I was forced to have 20" wheels because my D4 was a stock car. I would rather have spent the money on something else and have 19" wheels for offroad.

We were also "forced" to have the 20" wheels as it was a stock car - but they aren't bad on road and look pretty good too.
As for optional extra's on an HSE - I suggest the heated steering wheel and tow pack are need to have's, surround cameras a nice gimmick to have, the parking heater unecessary unless you are planning on moving to Iceland and the tints ok if you really value your privacy. The cooler was something we had on our D3 and never found it of any real value.
What colour are you going for ?
BTW - what are you looking to get for your D1 ? I would be interested in a 3 door to convert into a bobtail. Is it a 300tdi, manual and if so, how many miles, condition, MOT etc ? Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Smarticus,
Galway Green with the Almond/Arabica/walnut combo - always had green LRs of some sort at home, can't really bring myself to go for anything else! Living in Germany for a bit over the winter - last few years over the same period its dropped below -15 for weeks at a time - hence the parking heating! Might go for tints as well, just to keep the sun out of the nipper's eyes too.....this is starting to rack up......
Re the D1, it is the manual (5 Spd) 300Tdi with 98K in good, tidy condition throughout. I use it everyday and 'touch wood', it's never missed a beat. The car is 'stock' with the exception General AT2s i've added to the stock steels and the drop plate tow bar. MOT'd and FSH. I'm after £1250 i suspect but haven't quite got round to thinking about it too hard yet - needs a bit of a clean first!!
