Low Battery Warning

I have noticed on the last three mornings that the D4 display shows the warning "Low Battery, please start engine". There is no problem starting, but this feels disconcerting. I happened again this morning after a journey of 100 miles plus yesterday.

Any thoughts?

How loud was the stereo? it goes into low power mode when you have it over (ISTR No. 23) & the Ign off.

Otherwise as yours is a new car, just check th battery connections are nice & tight, it may not be getting enough charge. Thumbs Up

Have you guys been sitting in the car, with the ignition on and playing with the gadgets for any length of time? This could be a contributory factor. And, as mentioned above, and elsewhere, check the battery terminals - the chap at the factory who fits them doesn't have a spanner, so can only do them up finger tight.

That's not strictly true, he does have a spanner but has to share it with the guy doing the EPB adjustments.

All part of the cost savings introduced by Tata

Dealer advises that the battery may have become low and that the normal alternator charging will not fully charge - only up to the previous level.

Therefore a trickle charge for a day should fix the problem by fully charging back to full level.

It's on trickle charge now so I'll see what happens ... Confused

So far so good ... trickle charge seems to have worked. Hopefully back up to full charge now - and stays that way Confused

I have had the exact same thing happen for the last two days, no radio/CD being used while the engine turned off etc and a few long trips which I thought would have charged it properly.
I'm leaving for work in the next two days for 7 weeks and don't have a battery charger at home, aaaargh, what a pain!

The dealer explained that this warning comes on if the battery has become low (eg while in stock) - in my case I suspect that this might have happened when the tints were added as the doors will have been open for long periods.

What happens is that the alternator does not charge beyond the previous level, so a trickle charge is needed to get it back up to full capacity.

Delta Mike, you had better get a charger!

Maybe LR should give us one with the car Rolling with laughter

Hmm I am confused (again!) Confused The level of battery charge will presumably vary according to usage. e.g. I would expect the level will be different after several short journeys in the winter with lights, heated windscreen/seats etc. as opposed to after a long run during the day.
At what point does the alternator decide that any particular charge level is the maximum it will charge up to? Is it the level at some form of system reset? In which case I don't understand how a trickle charge would actually help - other than to charge the battery obviously Wink Or is it the maximum level it has ever seen from the battery, in which case all the cars will be running around with whatever maximum charge level happened to be in the battery when it was first installed. Confused
