at the moment i'm right royally ticked off with them!

I got sent a unit with the wrong bracket.
the bracket got replaced and then I couldnt fit it due to issues when tightening it all up
I phoned max and apparently there is a problem with them and they are now shipping me some new washers to use so that the alko hitch works properly.

not too impressed with a £200+ bikerack that I need working by next week when I set off to germany!!!!!

does that give a flavour of my current opinion ?

Tried mine for the first time yesterday. I bought the 5 Cycle rack and it is very well made.

Bolting the adapter to the towbar was pretty straight forward although I could have done with another pair of hands to keep it straight while I tightened it. This took me about 15 minutes.

To attach the bike rack you first have to attach the upright tube, this is secured to the adapter by 1 lockable pivot pin (padlock is suppled) and 1 clamp bolt (if you remove this bolt the whole rack can tilt forward with the bikes attached). Then you slide the top beam into the upright tube (remembering to attach the cycle cradles first) and secure with a g-clip.

Put the cycles on the rack and thread the webbing strap (attached to the top beam) through the cycle cradles. If you need to carry a light bar this attaches under the webbing strap. Then using the ratchet at the front you can secure the bikes, the g-clip and the light bar holder. There is a security cable attached to the top beam that can then be threaded through the bikes and then locked using the supplied padlock.

I found that the whole thing looked very sturdy when assembled and the bikes did not move at all in the rack whilst the vehicle was in motion.

Hope that helps - if you would like to see the instructions PM me your email address and Ill scan them in and send them to you.

compared with all the other units i have had - and believe me I have had most of them - this is the most robust one i have seen

i just wish it could have been tried and tested on my car by now!

I have been interested in a Bike rack too, I have the removable tow bar on my D3, will the Maxx Raxx fit? and have you got a website for the rack or even photos?

Thanks

The MaaxRaax will fit on the removable tow bar and you will still be able to tow if you wish. There is a specially designed clamp that fits on the removable tow bar that allows you to connect the bike rack.

Because I live in the little backwater of Norwich there isn't a fitter of the Maxx Raxx swan neck adapter until Huntingdon. Samantha from Maxx Raxx has helpfully sent me the instructions on fitting it and with these and based on Woody's experience it doesn't seem to hard to fit.

The only thing putting me off is the disclaimer I have to sign absolving them of repsonsibility etc etc etc. I'm not afraid of assembling it myself (looks easier than most Ikea kitchen drawers) but wonder if any of the rest of you fitted it OK to the removable bar, have you used it in anger and was it robust enough?

In addition the 20% offer is still good for forum members!

I decided to fit the bracket myself as their nearest approved installer was a fair distance away. I didnt have to sign a disclaimer though, do you mean the bit where there approved fitter is supposed to sign? After reading the instructions that Samantha sent me it did not look too hard and I thought as long as it is tightened and fitted to their specifications there should not be a problem.

Since fitting it I have only used it two or three times but I have had no problems with the strength of the rack or the swan neck adapter.

You have to sign away the fact that you are responsible for any damage that might occur from a non-approved fitter.

You could look at this as being a bit of a risk with a £40k car but I take a similar risk every time I get behind the wheel!!
