Box of Electrics under Drivers seat
I was retrieving a couple of lost chips from under the drivers seat of my 08 HSE and I noticed a large box of electronics about 12' x12" with a large heat sink on top of it. Anyone know what this box does as if I ever did get stuck in a water crossing this would be quite vulnerable, just wondering what I would loose to the evil water.
Thanks i've found out so much on this site since I've had my D3

Amp for the ICE
PS the chances of you a/ getting stranded and b/ water getting into the cabin as a result are fairly slim.....it's not a Defender you know 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Thanks DG, still getting the confidence up to take it off road, I've got a full day experience booked at LRE Rockingham in December for the wife and I which should open our eye to the D3's abilities. Have been amazed at what some of the guys on the forum have done in their D3

I've just done the full day at LRE Westcountry - it certainly gave me more confidence, and I'm not a novice off-roader - the cars are extremely capable (although the LRE ones have the locking rear diff). Regards,

I think its also I don't want to dink my lovely new car (well to be anyway). Spooky does the locking rear diff come standard on the 08 HSE as I think mine might have it as when you go to 4x4 info screen it shows a lock symbol over the rear diff, it would be good if it is fitted

It wouldn't come as standard, the lock appears, but will change colour when it actually locks up (if you have it) And it will only lock up in the situations that it needs it (or in Rock Crawl ISTR) Bodsys Brake Bible

Gavin when I float my cursor over your motor icon it says "2008 Discovery 3 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Tonga Green" ...something not right there I would say ...is it a site thing or did you select it yourself ?21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Ian62 did that at Mammut Park in September last year. He got stuck in a sump and water started to come in at the sills. He had wet carpets and a few crackles from the amp. It dried out OK.

It's not infallible of course ...look at VA's water encounter in his RRS ...but it's fairly watertight throughout an average dunking 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
