Drivers Seat Mod's for Tall Drivers with Long Legs
I'm 6'-7" (200cm for my UK friends), so I find that my knee rubs unagreeably onto the side of my center console.
Today I hired a fabricator to move the seat 2.5" (6.35cm) back further. Frank at http://www.franksfabshop.com/ contrived an ingenious way to extend the seat rails without requiring welding or cutting.
He drilled out the two bolts that attach the seat rails to the mounting stanchions. Then created a short extension plate, fore and aft.
The seat is raised about 1.4" as a result, but I have a full 2.5" of much appreaciated additional leg room.
All in all, the modification looks great, but it's not as effective as I had hoped. The contours of the center console and the close proximity of the accellerator pedal to the console forces my leg to be largly in the same spot it was before. However, on long drives, I have considerably more range of motion to ease out the fatigue in my legs. With that, it was definately worth it.
Cheers,
NW

yes - looks good- I have avoided having this done in my D3 as I just dont like altering the seat/safety dynamics of the vehicle - Had it done in my D2 though- and if you ever drove one of those I suspect your face would be squashed up against the windscreen, there was just no room in that vehicle in the front !!!!!! 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. Definately agree with you. That's why I haven't owned a D1 or D2. They just were not designed to accomodate Plus sized guys.

I know yours is left hand drive, so dont know if this applies, but in mine, I've also removed the foot rest thats sits to the left of the clutch pedal. I'm only 6ft 5, and this give extra left legroom to stretch out.

I was going to ask, Could the plate not be reversed to allow shorter drivers to reach the pedals
I've been trying to get this sorted on mine for a while. I've removed the clutch rest and that has helped to a degree, plus am getting used to it now as well. Just done 1100 miles on holiday last week and haven't suffered too badly from 350 mile in a day drive. Just twisted ankle feeling in the morning following the drive. I think it is as much to do with being high up having driven normal cars for ages (although I had a M reg disco when that was new for a while but hated it...)
I'm not keen on raising the seat up at all as that must make other problems appear!
