Had a D4 up my @rse tonight!
On way home this evening, a 'Farnel demo' D4 joined behind me at a roundabout on the York ringroad.
The guy kept up my tail as if to say "out of my way peasant, cann't you see I'm driving the new superior D4"
Well, I wellied it out of a roundabout and lost the sod in a cloud of grey smoke.
So, wasn't he trying hard enough ?
or
Is the D3 with JE Tune/K&N equal to/better/worse than the D4.
This model didn't have these 'cock' LED's btw. - so is it a lower spec engine?
Also got to say, that grill looks so out of proportion - 2 silver spars high up & close together with nought below!
From a front/side angle, I'd expect the vehicle to be different all over - but it's not - it's still only a D3!
It's like going to bed with the face of some young thing, only to find that it's her mother whos' the more mature, ample and experienced woman beneath!
Sorry chaps, no matter how long I look, or imagine driving it [or even how I'd adapt it] - this D4 certainly aint for me!...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.

He was probably paying too much attention to the LR break in procedure. I'd have given you a run for your money
Thing is, once there's a tune out for the D4, you won't see it for dust...... If in doot, flat oot!!

In a straight line, I'd guess they ought to be quite well matched - typical remap seems to give similar BHP and torque to new 3.0l. However, based on my test drive of the D4 vs my 2yo D3, I think the D4 would win out through the bends - much more composed. That said, a number of people with more recent D3s are saying they don't see the big difference so perhaps there's been some steady evolution going on
