I use from Mov to AVI MPEG WMV Converter from http://www.aone-video.com to get it to AVI or WMV and then just use Windows Movie Maker after that - WMV 768Kbs is about right for YouTube
DiscoStu will be along with the 'professional setup' in a bit I expectSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Final Cut Express is a better option if you do have a Mac, there's a load of stuff in FCP that you probably wouldn't use.2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

I use Ulead video studio 11.5 plus.
It does pretty much anything you need to do, I made a very nice wedding video for my business partner with it and he and his wife were chuffed to bits with itI have something to say! It's better to burn out... than to fade away!

I've been using Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate lately and it's very good for a home/amateur point of view.....
You can buy the Standard edition for 35 quid which has more than enough for home users
