Broken rear hatch latch

I had the rear hatch latch break and was duely locked out of the boot.

It was lucky I did not have the barrier up and was on a trip, otherwise it would have been almost dangerous not to be able to access our food and beer.
I had it fixed quicky by our LR dealer no probs. Though he went on to say that he had spoken to someone that had fixed a wire pull mecahism and put the loop behind the rear numberplate. I thought this was a great backup and neat as well.

Does anyone know of this fix and can provide details. I want to impliment it.

Cheers
David

I don't know of the alternate fix but I have had the same fault and I've always been terrified that the cable will break again and to make access even harder now I have a set of drawers and cargo barrier fitted 100% of the time. When I built my drawers and barrier I took into account that I may need to be able to access the cargo area by removing the barrier and drawers from inside the D3 - it would be a right old pain but is doable in an emergency.

Had the same thing happen about 4 months ago, major pain in the ass, We had to get kids prams etc, out via 2nd row doors, until we had it fixed

I think this is common fault.

I have seen a thread else where on the forum
Trust me, what could go wrong?
