No Load Road Rumble and Squeaky wheel |
|
My 56 plate manual diesel motor with 33k on clock is just about to ends its warranty period and I have a couple of niggling worries.
Recently (in last 2000 miles) I have noticed a distinct road rumble when the motor is not under engine load. It cannot be heard above engine when on load but is definitely there when no load and pretty much at any normal speed. All 4 tyres were replaced with standard Scorpions approx 6000 miles ago along with a 4 wheel alignment check and appear to be wearing normally. I have read talk of Diff problems but to me it sounds more like a wheel bearing (are they as fragile as D2 bearings?). Any help and advice so I can go to stealers armed with information.
Also (don't think its related) for over 4000 miles there has been an intermittant squeal coming form rear near side wheel. Rather than a squeal it sounds like a metal on metal squeal. It only seems to occur radomly above 30mph regardless of going straight or around corners. Its obviously somthing rotating. - Wheel bearing or brakes???
Again the motor is due for its pre end of warranty check and first MOT so any advise or pointers on the above and/or other problems to look for would be much appreciated.
