Disco 3 4.4 V8 mechanical tuning

Hi guys,

Altough some of you might not agree, I believe that the 300hp for this car are not enough. So I was wondering if there are any tuning parts for our car. I was thinking of a better ecu(or reprogramed), full stainless steel exhaust system with headers and an air filter for a start.

alternatively a bolt on supercharger ?? Whistle Rolling Eyes

also is there any chance that one will ever be able to interfear in the elctronics of the suspension so that he can leave the car lowered for a higher speed ? e.g. 60 miles. ?

thank you

There are places which offer a re-map (google is your friend) and I think Rimmer Bros do a stainless exhaust system (cat back).

Other than these I cannot find much either although it is interesting to note that this same engine in the BMW 740i has another 60 BHP for some reason. I suspect ECU mapping has something to do with this although it might be the case that LR specified different camshafts for better torque etc.

But yes, I agree with you. 300bhp from a 4.4 is a little on the cautious side. Wink

BMW engine, not Jaguar. The 4.2 S/C as fitted to the RR is a Jag motor.

Origin is the 4.2 Jag engine and they modified it a bit now it is 4.4 litre.

can someone confirm the engine ???

I really thought that it was a jag engine.

from my research though no -one has a descent tune for the car.

i have seen somewhere a custom air suspension system that lets you decide at what height you wat the suspension regardless the speed. can anyone give me a link or some info cause i can;t find it

This engine is from the Jaguar/Ford stable.
The BMW M62 engine was fitted to L322 RR to 2005 it was then replaced with this engine the AJV8, which is also fitted to the D3 and the RR Sport. It was taken out to 4.4 from the standard Jaguar 4.2, basically to improve the torque for the heavier vehicles.
The 4.2 Supercharged version produces about 380bhp but fuel economy is about 20% worse.
Having driven a lot of all these vehicles my opinion is that the AJV8 in the D3 is exceptionally smooth and produces its power right the way through its operating range, it does however lack something in low down torque.
The BMW engine is slightly `rougher` (not especially so but best way I can describe it), it does though feel a whole lot torquier and seems to be quicker off the mark.

Personal preference would be M62 in the D3, but hey, I`ll just have to put up with the AJV8!

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_Discovery
Quote:
The engines used in the Discovery 3 were all taken from Land Rover's sister company, Jaguar. A Peugeot-developed 2.7 litre, 195 hp (145 kW) V6 diesel engine (the TdV6) was intended to be the biggest seller in Europe. For the US market and as the high-performance option elsewhere, a 4.4 litre petrol V8 of 300 hp (220 kW) was chosen. A 216 hp (161 kW) 4.0 litre SOHC Ford V6 petrol engine was available in North America and Australia.[/list]
