How permanent can a temporary fix be?
I had to call LRA out a few weeks ago because of a lack of engine power. The technician blanked off the EGR valves using a 2p coin under each pipe. How long is it safe to keep these coins in place? I know that blanking off EGR's is not unusuall but could the way it has been done this time cause problems because of the copper rather than the type off metal usually used. I want to keep the valves blanked because the car seems to run better. What do you think?

If your worried about it then buy an EGR blanking kit from BAS or another member on here
I dont think the 2p will be effected by the heat from the exhaust valves
Post 1992 2p coins are 93% mild steel, so they should be fine left in place permanently.Previously:

With just the one blanked, you can leave the butterfly in place. If they are both blanked, you want to either get them fixed, or remove the butterfly pretty sharp-ish My D3 Build Thread

Because the turbo will still be trying to suck air in, but with the EGR's closed, and the butterfly closed, it cant. It could cause the turbo to fail...
There is a more technical answer, but im in a rush My D3 Build Thread

Your car should have been recovered to a dealer and fixed properly. I would call Land Rover Customer Care and ask them what is going on.In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Rich 71 get your D3 to the to the LR agents ASAP
With the butterfly still in place and both EGR's blanked IMHO
your are heading for trouble. The electronic side has not been
disabled, thus the butterfly is still active as normal. The problem
is when the ECM tells the butterfly to close/EGR valves to open
in high RPM conditions, there is no air/exhaust gas flow into
the engine, as they are blanked off. So now when the butterfly
closes, a massive vacuum is created between it and the
engine, at some point something will give way and get sucked
into the engine.D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.

As for the turbo, I don't see it having any influence in these conditions.
The engine manufacturer would have put a system in place to bleed
off the boost pressure when the butterfly closes.D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.

Rich71 the butterfly is fitted in the front of the inlet manifold,
just behind where pipe clips on.
