A friend of mine at work makes timers for live wells on boats. He set me up with with a board and parts to make one. The ones he makes are 1 min off and variable on for 3-5mins. Mine is variable on both sides. The plan is to connect it to bypass the exsting cooler controler and run it off my 2nd battery. There will be an overide switch to run it in factory mode or timer mode. I loaned the D3 out to my sister who is doing some moving so I cant really play with it untill thursday but I went ahead and built the timer. I'm not sure on how Im going to set up the timming yet I think Im going to start with 5mins on, 5mins off as a starting point with 4 bottles of water and adjust from there.
Heres some photos of the timer.

I was thinking of doing something like this myself, but i was just going to connect the fridge direct to the aux battery and use the normal switch to turn it on and off. but the timer seems a good idea Duncan

Yeah I thought about hard wiring it also. Hopefully the timer will be a "set it and forget it" for the most part. If it works out I can see about trying to make them available.Sceen name use to be "wantsanlr3"

are you going to use the existing connectors. I was hoping I could buy a new connector and use that to connect to the aux battery rather than splicing into the original main wiringDuncan

Well I finally got the timmer in for the cooler. I had to mod it a bit I was using 500k & 1meg pots but wasn't getting the time I wanted and so they got swapped out to 2meg on both on and off times.
I put 4 bottles of water in it last night. and its down to 58 this morning outside temp is 78-82. the real test will be today when it get hot out. I havent checked the voltage yet on the 2nd battery. But it was enough to power up the carputer and that wont come on unless theres atleast about 11.5 volts I think. I'll check the actual voltage today after work.
DiscoDunc I soldered a wire to the back of the control board to the black wire circled. This is the voltage out that runs the cooler plate and fan. This way I didnt have to cut into the loom at all.
