My 05 D3 auto (93,000 miles) has a rattle that appears when the throttle is either kept constant under part throttle or under gentle acceleration under part throttle, or easing back to part throttle, it appears to disappear under harder acceleration. The sound is like a musical rattle being shaken about rapidly and quite loud.
Has it always done this since you've had it? Sounds like injector chatter to me, which is pretty normal.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Mrs DSL's D3 had the same, almost like tappet rattle on low throttle. It vanished after the turbo was changed. Don't know if related but noise went, do do do do! (to sound of X-Files musac)

It has done it for the time I've had it, about 6 months and 6,000 miles.
My FFRR has a 'tinkering' sound on constant speed throttle - a bit like a washer rattling round on a loose bolt. Only noticeable without the radio on but it is annoying. Done it since new and I've already called the Lakeland service manager to ask about it. He said he didn't know of anything common which would cause this.
I wonder if we are talking about the same sort of noise? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

I wonder if it's the same noise that distinguishes the 07> from the <07MY cars. Drive them back to back and the later cars have a distinctive chattering/tinkling noise when on a slack throttle. EGR?I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
