Coppers ATR 265/60/18

Finally got the new Coppers ATR's fitted yesterday.
So far I don't detect any increase in road noise, and ride feels a bit better.

Seems to be more room between the front strut and inside of tyre wall, my snow chains fit now with no rubbing occuring.

Happily, the tread pattern is more agressive than what I was expecting.

Sorry for the poor quality of pictures, I took them with my phone camera.

They look good.

When you say there is more room, what size and type of tyres did they replace?

I'm still trying to decide the best option to replace my 255/60R18 OEM Wranglers and have been looking at the Coopter HT+ and Yokohama Geolandar (both in 265/65R18).

I do a mix of about 95% highway and 5 soft sand driving. Do you have any thoughts?

Thanks.

They replaced the original tyres 255/60/18.

With the original tyres I could not fit my pointer finger between the front strut and inside tyre, my snow chains apperared to just rub the strut so much so that I was to afraid to use them.

With these new tyres I can fit my pointer finger between the strut and inside of the tyre, the snow chains don't appear to rub on the strut now, (still not a huge amount of clearance)

I was really worried that being a wider tread pattern that the tyre may rub on the strut,

rbjt, if you do 95 road and 5% sand then HT's are they way to go

Razzle,
Any theory on how your snow chain observation makes sense? I don't doubt what you have seen, but I can't for the life of me understand how a wider tyre on the same rim could have MORE clearance? Unless perhaps the OEM tyre bulged more at the normal pressure, and your new LT?? construction have straigter sidewalls? I am grasping for a logical explanation...

I agree, it does not make sense, but the only thing I can add is I have the white side wall writing pointing intowards the car, ie you can't see the white writing when looking at the tyres, (as the photo's show)

So I am not sure if the side walls have the same projection each side of the rim? or there is a different offset for each sidewall? logic tells me they would be the same, Or the bulge in the tyre side wall is in a different position to the OEMS. They do appear to have a more square x/section profile, to the OEMS

Plus the snow chains, inner wire ring may be sitting in a different position, as these tyres are wider and taller?

I like a combination of bothe explanations - different chain position, plus a squarer tyre. i don't think asymetric sidewalls are possible.
I have 265 ATR (LT) in 17 inch, and I would not be game to attempt snowchains - there's just not enough clearance given the larger width & OD.
