What Length to Shorten Rods by? |
|
Hi all,
I purchased a set of adjustable rods for my D3 and was wondering what sort of distance the rods should be shortened by for Off Road optimal use and also for best Compromise for General On & Off Road use?
My last four vehicles had lifts of up to 100mm but they were old fashioned leaves or coils!
And yes I wish I had the money for the onboard adjustable ones!

I've got a set of rods shortened by 5mm that I'll be fitting in the next month or so.....
It'll give me a bit more clearance but not high enough to ever start risking height sensor errors etc - it should still behave pretty well on-road.
I know people running -10mm rods without real problems (apart from more pronounced body roll on corners) - anything more than this is probably a bit too much to be honest.
I'd recommend between -5mm and -8mm as a good compromise....obviously if you want 'optimal off-road', then I'd be looking at -10mm 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

In this photo, it is on -13mm rods in the front, -10mm rods on the rear. The rear plastic fender well covers have been removed, the body metal has been cut out. (Can't do this with rear A/C). On the front 5mm wheel spacers.
Tires are 285/65-18, however once installed they actually measure larger then the specs from the manufacture. Bodsys Brake Bible

Rich - start out with 10mm. If this works for you, keep it there. Anywhere from 8mm to 12mm should be within spec. 2006 D3 Tonga Green

Done
I ended up setting them 8mm shorter.
Although it looks a little higher in the rear than the front.
Maybe 7mm rear, 8mm front would be level.
Thanks for the advice guys.
