Second Battery recomendations Also UHF radio placement

What batteries are people using with their 2nd battery set up.

Has anyone tried to fit Exide Orbital (can the post be cut down far enough to allow posts to clear the cover) and what did you do for the battery tie down strap?

Predominant use is for fridge radios etc. Probably going to fit winch so the orbital looks a good choice given limited space and it appears I only need to reduce the front post height.

For those that have fitted Anderson plugs for camper trailers what location? Loose in behind cover or attached and how?

Looking to fit GME UHF with removeable face, interested in where fitted. Trying to keep the Sat Nav space free for eventual Sat Nav screen fitment

Traxside system with an Amptech deep cycle, only $170, required some 'modification' to the bracket. You can fit a Varta 80APH with some modification to the ribs.
You can put the main part of the UHF under the seats but since that space is full of subwoofers I will be putting mine in the drivers footwell (there are some bolts sticking out of the firewall behind the dash)

I actually use an Icom IC440, mounted under the seat and then the all in one speaker/mic/control unit just hangs on the right of the console.

I am currently trying a stick on glass antenna (rather than a thru glass), to see if I am happy with it.

Would luv to actually use the upper glass of the rear side windows for thru glass, but haven't yet tried pulling down the roof lining for access.

I have a GME radio with all the controls on the mic. The main unit is hidden under the dash so all you see is a cord and the mic. Very neat and sound is really clear Very Happy

Second battery...Yellow top Optima, not the cheapest option but I ran them in my Defender and they worked perfectly for 5 years so I did not hesitate to go the same way again. Very Happy

I deleted the white trailer plug (replacing it with a reversing camera plug for caravan) and mounted the Anderson on the side of tow cubby hole. Fits well and still allows the Mitchell tow kit and modified ( cut out )cubby cover when not towing.
Have a radio under the front seat, underside (speaker side) up, control head in the dashboard cubby (fixed with velcro) and the mike coming up from under the front seat (which doesn't get fouled by the seat slide). Radio attached to the duct with velcro for easy removal in case there is a risk of taking on water. Holds well, works well and the audio is better than direct exposure to the speaker.
