Fitting front/rear lamp guards?

Hi,

Are front/rear lamp guards easy enough to fit? Do I need to drill any of the body work or do they fit to existing screws etc. Any help would be grate, I'm considering buying a set for my D3.....

Cheers,

Jason

Front ones are a no-brainer - pop the headlamps out, stick plugs into ready and waiting holes, attach hidden bracket - put headlamp back in and screw down outer guard - job done.

Back ones need drilling of bodywork BEHIND lamp units - instructions say you should use Rivnuts into 7mm hole (ISTR) but I never had the rivnuts on mine so drilled 4mm holes, gunked up with a bit of mastic and self tapped the screws in. Just need to follow the old 'measure twice, cutdrill once' adage to get them straight

Front guards fit using existing holes etc - no need for drilling.

Rear guards need a couple of holes drilling, but are behind the rear lights and would therefore be invisible if you take them off at some point.

Fitting instructions are available here:

Had these guards on my GS and was a bit concerned about the drilled holes at the back. Self tappers and unprotected steel didn't seem a good idea on a car designed to run in mud and water so I kept them coated in grease as far as possible. One thing to watch for is the positioing of the rear guard brackets. when I inspected the car before I bought it (it had been a demo car) I found that the inner brackets had been rubbing on the edge of the rear glass and had worn a groove in it. The stealer polished the edge of the glass smooth again but failed to see that spacers were needed to align the bracket correctly. I had no trouble after I made up small small spacers to fit behind the outer brackets.
