Yes it was a drastic measure, but the way the rear door actuator is fitted there is no access to get into the latch from inside the door.
Child locks were fitted so no way to open from inside.

I spent hours trying every thing possible before I cut small hole in door to allow access.

So my right rear door latch is stuck again after a few weeks of working.
Have bought a new replacement from LR in South Africa (£145), but for the life of me cannot get the door open to do replacement. Didn't take to long the first time around, but this time it just will not open, so back to the idea of cutting holes in the door to get better access.
At least now I know what the mechanism looks like and were to try and force manual release.

I cannot believe that there is not another way than just fiddling with buttons and hoping for the best.
Surely there must be some kind of official LR procedure for this situation.
Are Disco's ever stolen, how do the thieves get in so quickly?

Steve, its a very nice guide, but it only works if the door is already open!!

Rear passenger door

06 Discovery 3

Off-side rear passenger door refused to open today. Central locking working fine on all other doors.[/b]

1) With the door closed I managed to get the trim off

- Flip out small circular cap behind the interior door latch. Take out 1x screw

2) Carefully take cover off the interior door handle (the bit you pull on to close door when inside)

3) Remove four screws holding door handle to door bulkhead

4) Pull off door trip. You may need to fold seat flat and push to floor

5) Spray wd40 into two small holes nearest door catch

6) With engine running, flick central locking, hit metal part of door bulkhead by catch, pull exposed door release multiple times. It eventually gave in and opened

7) Spray loads more wd40. into the latch mechanism. Work it baby. make sure the latch is open then close/open door a few times

8) Then reassemble

NB: I found it easier to reattache the door handle mechanism with the trim off, then feed this through the trim handle hole

I couldn't find any broken bits of plastic etc. I'll see how long this lasts before getting a new latch.
