It started off as a whine like the prop centre bearing was starting to go but that was ok so we ran the car up on a ramp and traced the noise to the transfer box...

It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Best thing to do is to take it back to the people who changed the oil etc and get them to check it out.
If mem serves the whine was there under all conditions ..

I replaced all 4 main roller bearings (1 x input shafts, and 1 x rear output shaft, 2 x front output shaft) in mine last autumn, as it was making a hell of a din, akin to a washing machine full of marbles, especially when in low range and freewheeling Shocked

It was surprisingly easier to take apart than I expected, and the replacement bearings were a snip at £106 (for all 4) from these guys http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/shopping_cart.php

Also managed to get some of the special sealant needed when putting the two casing halves back together

Been as good as new since Thumbs Up

help needed

Hi guys,

is there a write up on how to do this. I have a transfer box that sounds like there are bearings running freely in it, I also have a gri ding rotational noise coming from it.

how mu h would it cost to change the bearings or is it something I could do myself.

Cheers

Rob,,,
