|
well wee update on the last post i placed about fuel overflow monday morning heading to work in fast lane the car locks solid luckely ngot into hard shoulder, made all phone calls got towed then got hit with the bomb shell the engine was seized solid have had the car for just over 3 weeks has a full service history and had just been serviced by main dealer in january,it is an 05 plate and has just over the 26000 miles on clock, got it taken into main dealer who after one day contacted me and informed me that because the warrentey hads just ran out on the 19th december 08 landrover would provide the engine at a cost of around £5400,but hears the good part the are only going to contribute 25% to the costs,i about p-ssed my self with laughter and told them to get a grip these so called top of the range cars are meant to be built like tanks and here we have one that cant even take on board a full tank of fuel and cant even last 4 weeks after a full dealer service without pop,has anyone got any information they can lend a hand with to fight my corner, dont intend to get rid have waited to long to own one .

5400 quid they are taking a big time, unless it is gold plated one???

it does even say on LR website:
What's my vehicle's warranty?
All Land Rovers come with the following warranties: 3 year unlimited mileage, 3 year unlimited mileage paint surface and 6 year unlimited mileage corrosion (perforation). To qualify, you must service your vehicle according to our recommendations.
3 year unlimited milage blahh blahh if it was serviced just before it broke I would look for free replacement as it was all according to recommendations wasn't it???

welcome to the standard LR dealer experience.
Ask supplying dealer for money back not of merchantable quality etc, get trading standards on the case ASAP.

Did you get it from a dealer?
There was an engine on eBay for £2,400 last week but it was for the manual gearbox. Bodsys Brake Bible

Surely the engine is the same whether it has a Manual or Auto gear box attached, i didn't think they did seperate engines for each type I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

The issue here is why it failed? The warranty period is in addition to your statutory rights, in law you can be covered beyond this period if you can clearly demonstrate it is not of satisfactory quality. So if the engine has been serviced and checked as prescribed then you may still be able to reclaim your costs. Look at it this way, if LR have already said that they will contribute 25% ...then that is an acknowledgement that somethings not quite right.

Yes, but I don't know if ancilliaries to link them are different. I assume they are mated with a different adapter. Also does it have different ecu controlling the gearbox? Prob worth getting one from breakers complete. But still think he should get recourse at the dealers. Me thinks a return of the keys is in order.......
It's only the second engine siezure i've heard of on here. Bodsys Brake Bible

The Why it Failed bit is worth investigating further. My father in law had a Merc seize shortly after a service. It transpired that the dealer had not tightened the oil drain plug correctly so it literally fell out. Unlikely to be the same in your case and I am pretty sure you would have noticed oil going everywhere, but worth checking.

Unless you bought it privately I would just take it back to whoever you bought it from. Even if you did not get a proper warranty, there is a 3 month rule on used cars from traders.
