Hi Bill,
I think there are three options:
1) make a long right-angle bracket and mount behind grill - with antenna just outside grill;
2) mount on roof-racks (if you have one); or
3) make a bracket that fits under the (driver's side) bonnet - there are a few bolts there which secure the guard.
I have a GME TX3440 which Brighton ARB fitted. They put in the space under the steering whell but didn't tie it down so it rattled and moved. I have since fixed that and the unit works well and can easily be heard. The mic comes out by the transmission tunnel by my left foot and usually sits in my cupholder but I may at some point use a bit of velcroe to attach it next to the radio. I have an ARB bar so no prob with ariel.
Have also used a Uniden handheld which is fine if you are in convoy.2.7 D4 eDiff, Traxide Dual battery, Safari Snorkel...Opposite Lock winch bar..extra set 17" wheels with 245/70/17 BFG KM2 MTs..Warrior winch..Long range tank.

Hi Bill,
Mounting ideas as above.
On my D1, I used a s/s z-shaped bracket attached to one of the guard mounting screws (under the edge of the bonnet).
I also have the ARB bar (which has two antenna mounting points - although they are quite low down).
You could also fabricate a mount to attach to one of the roof rail mounting points. Then it would be a matter of feeding the cable so that it didn't get caught by trees etc. Probably choose one of the rearmost ones and feed the cable through the back of the D3.
Best Wishes,

Hi Bill,
An update. I've just seen an ad in the LROC News (the magazine of the LROC (Sydney Branch)) by Lab Electronics which shows an antenna bracket for D3/RRS. Their website doesn't yet have details, but it is similar to the side-fitted under-bonnet bracket (shown by CW?), but it seems to be made from S/S.
There is a grommet in the firewall behind the brake master cylinder, in the spare battery box that will get you from the engine bay into the cabin. I put my aerial on the bull bar, but you can get some tidy mounts for the bonnet side edge or out the front of the grill.

I investigated installing a uhf last year, and when it came to installing the antennae, the installer was very adamant about placing the antennae on windscreen with stick on base, according to ADR no brackets are allowed to protrude out from the vehicle, front or side.Trust me, what could go wrong?

my bracket does not protrude past the front of the bumper (which is what the law says) so is legal. please pass this on to your installer

He said it was to do with, if the car impacts on a person, they will be "pierced" by the bracket, probably a side issue to the impact from 2.7t's of Englands finest.Trust me, what could go wrong?

G'day Bill
Here are a couple of pics of my mount.
The bracket is a standard GME Z mount tho slightly bent more to fit. It is bolted onto the top bracket of the bonnet strut I also put shrinkwrap on the bracket to stop any possible rubbing etc

I have done numerous Ks off road and it has always performed well.
