I am looking for a sat nav for my Disco 3.
Ideally I would like to try to fit this in the centre dashboard compartment ( I believe this is where the screen is on the higher spec'd models with sat nav / camera etc.)
Does anyone have any views as to which will fit best and whether any fixings are required
thanks
Steve

I can't recommend, highly enough, the Garmin Nuvi 1490TV and the D4 surround mod.
I too was going to install the LR fit OEM spec satnav but after hearing all the people on here complaining about it's problems, I went down the 1490 route and it is simply superb.
Prices vary but E-Bay is a good place to start. The 1490TV fits perfectly in the upper cubby hole when coupled with a D4 surround and looks like original equipment. It will also take a cheapo reversing camera, provide freeview TV and there's also a gadget for engine info which plugs into the car and displays on the touch screen and you can edit the boot screen to make the whole package look LR authentic.

I have just bought a Garmin nuvi 2595LM 5" screen, sat-nav to replace my tomtom start 60 which was only 8 weeks old and had already been replaced under warranty (eventually) by tomtom. Long story, but I will never have another tomtom.
I am waiting for the D4 surround to arrive from Nick then I will get started. The Garmin unit is very handy as it powers on and off automatically without having to touch the button, which is just as well as it will be "built in" to the cubby hole.

The wiring is easy enough. Fit a piggyback fuse holder to fuse 58 and then connect the red wire to a cigar lighter socket behind the bottom glove box, take the black wire from the cigar lighter socket and connect to an earth.
You then have a socket behind the glovebox that becomes live when the car wakes up and switches off when the car goes to sleep. You then plug the sat-nav charger cable into the socket and run the mini USB end up to the cubby hole.
The socket is only a couple of quid of the bay and the D4 surround from Nick is about £13 delivered,
