Fuel filler question
so, every once in a while ill get the "reduced engine performance" message, on occasion after this happens the car will stall out. this is once in a blue moon however. but my main question is that i am wondering if there is a small flap on the inside of the fuel filler neck, mine doesnt have one and im starting to think that my flap has broken off and fallen into the tank where every once in a while it will get sucked up near the fuel pump and cause either a drop in fuel pressure also causing the message, and sometimes leading to a stall. i have the V8 petrol, but i doubt the fuel necks will be much different. this is just my guess to my problems, but if anyone else has the same message and occasional stalling issure please let me know.
It does have a flappy thing. When I got my D3 (used) it was bent and the dealership replaced it under warranty. So yes there is one there.Sceen name use to be "wantsanlr3"

well my first suspicion is confirmed. Do you think it would have any severe effects on the fuel system? ive seen many pumps before, most with the "sock" thing, but im interested to see the effects on the D3.
I might just take it to the dealers and act as if i dont know what happened. lets just say i almost got a bottle of fuel system cleaner stuck in there and muscled it out a little hard.
I cant see that being it most fuel pumps have a plastic mesh filter on the end of them for that purpose to keep large stuff from getting in or blocking it. But Ive neve seen the D3s pumpSceen name use to be "wantsanlr3"

I know of a similar problem on one of my lorries, someone had put a candy wrap in the tank and that used to completely block the mesh filter on the end of the fuel pipe. Was a pain to find out about it as with an empty tank, it would stick to the side and you would not notice it.
Saying that, I cannot imagine the suction being so strong (even on a petrol LOL) that it would be able to suck up a piece of metal from the bottom of the tank. Fuel line to the fuel pump tends not to be at the bottom of the tank as water and 'other stuff' will lay on the bottom and not get into the engine. Dunno how heavy this pieces is but it sounds odd to me.
