No glow plug light today.
This morning, the air temp at home was about 0 degrees. When I turned the key, the self check initiated but there was no yellow glow plug lamp. Repeated the cycle and it was the same. The engine started ok.
This afternoon, left the golf club, and turned the key, it was the same, no light. The engine was cold and the air temp was still 0 degrees.
I have a done a quick search, but nothing relevant. Has anyone seen this before?
The fact that it starts smoothly leads me to believe that either the bulb has blown, or the glow plugs are working without indication.

EGR valves. Or EPB.
Yes I'd go for the blown bulb theory. Of course it may be the brake light bulb that has blown Cheers

Re: No glow plug light today.
I had this one day (a year ago) and it fixed itself the day after never to be seen again....I didn't notice any difference in the starting of the engine either.

The instruments are backlight with LEDs and they very rarely fail.....
What would the symptoms be of a lack of glow-plugs on modern diesel engines? Unable to start, long time to start or lumpy idle???2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

At the kind of temps we are experiencing, I would suspect a rough startup at least.
I didn't know there was a glow plug lamp on the high line instrument panel? Which one is it?Previously:

Its the yellow coil symbol that is supposed to come on for a few seconds when you turn the key on a cold start. Its in the tacho.

You are supposed to let the glow plug lamp to out before you start the engine, usually take 1-2 seconds to go off.

Thanks for the offer Iain, I'm working at Notts GC next Friday, which is not a million miles from your manor. Are you around?

Update - my D3 has self healing abilities. The glow plugs have started working again today I have not even opened the bonnet, so it can't be anything I've done.
Iain, I may still call in and drink your coffee and have a chat on Friday though if your around. I'll text you first
