Sluggish starting & error messages |
|
The D3 starter motor seems to be turning the enginje over a bit slower than normal we are getting a variety of error messages. Seems the battery is low on power and the error messages include Park Brake Fault plus various other transmission messages. However once she starts, the messages seem to clear and all seems in order. Took her for a long drive hoping to charge the battery but still seems a bit sluggish cranking on starting up again. All a bit worrying. Is this a "common" problem and if so, where does it go from here. Can I put the battery on charge with a normal battery charger and is so, do I need to disconnect it from the vehicle first ? Sounds ominous - should we dig a big hole and drop the D3 in and then run a long distance away ? Disco 4 TDV6HSE

The car is 2 years old and 30,000 miles. Never seen a low voltage warning on dash though. She started playing up after an hour in kwik fit getting 4 new tyres fitted. Probably coincidence I guess.
Do normal battery chargers work ok on the D3 - I heard somewhere that the D3 batteries actually work at about 14 volts and any fall from that level can mess with the D3's electrics. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Ah, if they left the keys in whilst changing the tyres, then the battery WILL have been drained considerably. could just be battery lower than normal. CTek I think seem to do chargers that cope with Calcium batteries. Someone posted they were in Costco for about £20 IIRC Bodsys Brake Bible

As already said Mark, battery is your problem. Low volts cause several errors on startup. If the battery is really low, it will probably need a bench charge to restore it. It could be a faulty battery, it may be worth talking to your dealer. I got a new battery at 2 years old. The replacement has been much better at holding a charge.
