Auto gearbox not selecting D
My 55 D3 SE is failing to select D when the stick is pulled back. If I give it a 'manly' tug it will occsionaly select. I've also had some succes sliding it across to command position. It's been to the dealer twice and each time they've cleaned or adjusted or whatever it is they claim £85 an hour for but it's come back again. Is there a fix and if so can I do it or do I need the millionaire mechnaincs with attitude to do it?Money isn't everything but it keeps the kids in touch.

Isn't it the gear selecter, not very expensive to replace ISTR, but if they just cleaned it & not changed anything, it could be worn. Do a search on here & you should find it. Bodsys Brake Bible

Mine did the same - I think the dealer said that it is a bent something in the linkage. They knew about the problem before I went in and fixed it without incident when they said they would. Even if not under warranty I don't think it would be too expensive as it was a quick job.
If your dealer doesn't know about this get them to ring the service people at Taggarts in Glasgow as they seemed on the ball.

Has it been getting worse If so the M8 nut has come loose from the linkage.
There is a flat metal leaver from the box with a bolt welded to it. The selector linkage fits over the bolt and is held in place with a nut (13mm spanner size).
Its an easy fix LRA will come out and sort it. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
