engine cutting out resulting in immediate loss of power steering - reason not clear but fixed (eventually) at dealer - possibly poor electrical connection/strained wiring

Had exactly the same issue, but with turning right. Cause was two-fold: leaking PAS fluid and loose gearbox linkages. Both now rectified. No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!
