Possible group by for access to GTR? |
|
I was reading through this topic
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic1229.html
and had a thought did a bit of searching and couldnt find anything. Whats the thought on doing a group buy on this? Maybe we could donate 5,10,15quid to the Disco3 site and it could be the owner of the D3 all years for one year subscription and for donating we could have access to the login. Or maybe if the site didnt want to I could do it or one or some other more well know member of the site could head it up.
Thoughts?
Quote:There are two official sources of Land Rover technical information online.
The first is the free "Owner Info" site which contains the following for the Discovery 3 and LR3:
Owner's Handbooks
Audio System Handbooks
Navigation, TV and Telephone System Handbooks
Rear Multimedia Handbooks
Warranty Handbooks
Driver Information System Handbooks
Accessory Fitting Instructions
All the information available on Owner Info is free to view after a free registration.
Update 9th March 2006 - Owner Info is now free to view and doesn't require any registration at all
You can find Owner Info at LR Owner Info
The second is the subscription based "Global Technical Reference" (GTR) which holds the following info for the D3/LR3:
Service Bulletins
Service Information
Diagnostic Device Information
You can view the titles of the documents available on GTR for free, but to view the documents in their entirity requires a subscription to be paid to Land Rover. The cost of the subscription varies depending on duration and the vehicles for which you require information. As of 15th September 2005, the prices are as follows (1 year/all years refers to model years of vehicle):
Note that if you sign up for '1 Year' (single model year) access you will not be able to view Service Bulletins, they do not seem to be grouped into model years so you only get to see them with an 'All Years' subscription. Thanks to Slimer for the info
Click LR GTR Online to go there.
Both sites require a free registration to use, but GTR requires a paid subscription to view information. LR Owner Info is free to view.

Sounds like a good idea - but I suspect it would be some sort of copyright violation

I would suspect so. And at minimum they would track IP's logging in.

Who ? me or him or the other one ?
Seriously though, I would be careful... considering the forum is well read by a certain manufacturer, I would refrain from starting a group buy publicly.
What you do privately has no bearing on the forum then, and is completely up to you

Well if the general consensus is that its not a good idea to do on here but still think its a good idea pm your email and I will work up a email list to discuss it privately.
Thanks

perhaps the best way would be for Martin to negotiate a deal with LR and requests for information go through the Mods. DG seems to have lots of time on his hands perhaps he could be the GTR MOD Duncan

or the sign of a badly run establishment is that people are able to spend time on here... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."
