Parking brake - repeated failure |
|
Our D3, HSE, January 2007 has had a series of park brake problems that the dealer seems unable to fix. They have "replaced the module" (?) at least twice and she has been back and forward for resets and the like. But the darn thing still keeps throwing up the red warning light within a few days of getting back from the dealer. They have had the car for the last week and are now checking the wiring harness as they think the issue might be being caused by a wiring fault, possibly only apparent in wet weather. Is this a journey others have been on before, and if so, where does it end (and when) ? Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Get them to take it apart properly, check the innards properly and put it back together properly. Then you should be good for a week, maybe two.
The "module" is probably the electric actuator that moves the cables - this lives above the rear diff. Cheers

Hi Mark, yes I have been there and done that! I had many failures, including screamers, lock-ons, red warnings lights, and glowing red brake disks
The dealer had the car for a couple of days, and completely rebuilt the thing at 90k, and its been reasonably ok since. It does creep forward if I leave it in drive, and I did have a binding issue since, but the dealer readjusted it FOC even though it was out of warranty.
Recently it has been fine though Now on 115k miles.

Dealer just rung with good news and bad news. The good news is that they think they have fixed the handbrake problem. After a week in their workshop they discovered a faulty wire. The bad news is that when test driving it "a valve blew up on the engine" ??? (Wife took the message so I have no details - maybe the EGR ?). They can't fix this until after Christmas. Now we have the pleasure of trying to fit family, two dogs, mountain bikes and Christmas pressies into a the loaner Freelander. It was going to be a struggle in the Disco, and the freelander looks about half the size (and no bike rack) Disco 4 TDV6HSE
