Transfer box control module programming |
|
Has anyone programmed a replacement transfer box control module (aka 4WD control module) with T4/Autologic? Is it absolutely necessary - ie, can the transfer box control module be installed and calibrated via the instructions in GTR ("press accelerator all the way for 5 secs., etc.") without first being initialized/downloaded by T4?
Please don't ask why I want to know as way too many hapless fools have been lambasted for similar trains-of-thought.

No idea, doesn't GTR tell you? Cheers

When I had my transfer case ecu replaced under warranty I was told that it wasn't an unusual fault. I then asked if I should carry a spare, upon which I was told that it needed to be reset at the dealers and so there was no point.
If Autologic can reset this, they've got a customer. The Bearded Dragon

Ignoring the whys...
GTR contradicts itself, which is why I'm asking about any practical experience. In the 4WD overview, GTR states that after replacing a transfer box control module, T4 must be used to re-calibrate the ecu.
However, several pages later in the same document, GTR states that to re-calibrate a transfer box control module after replacement of any of the affected parts - including transfer box ecu - either T4 or an alternate self-calibration procedure (which is then outlined) can be used.
For one, this self-calibration procedure *might* be useful if transfer case reverts to limp-home mode in the middle of nowhere. Like bushwanderer wondered, if a spare transfer case ecu can be popped in and re-calibrated in the field, would be seriously useful. Of course, that would only make sense if the transfer case ecu was pre-loaded from the factory, rather than needing to be uploaded with software first...

All the transfer box control module needs to see is the full movement of the solenoid, this is normally done as part of the initial start-up routine, i'm aware of the procedure on GTR but have never used it as my Autologic has that functionality. That said, my old D3 suffered low battery voltage a couple of times and logged a 'range change not available' fault, following the GTR procedure cleared it both times - <07MY D3's have modified software to prevent this error but a new module will need the calibration routine to be carried out, as far as I know the manual routine is still valid
