So why does my iphone show a snowy D3 and my mac have a D3 without snow  DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Si, did that and it re-loads with snow on the D3. If I then look at new posts or go 'Home' it goes back to the old stylee summer D3  The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.

It's all to do with the cache, there is only one image used across all pages. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Or just hold down the option key while refreshing the page... does the same thing but just for the page itself.
That way you still have your cache for other sites - especially if those sites use Falsh heavily.
