From an unreliable resource (my memory) I seem to recall that it was the internal seals in the high pressure pump that would be the most problematic under Biodiesel.
The rubber used in the pump is designed to be used only with dino-diesel. Using bio-diesel will result in the rubber swelling and softening, and when a pump is running at around 24,000PSI (1600BAR) like the one in a D3, a softening seal is the last thing you want.
If you consider that LR is recalling a whole number of D3 pumps as they are not coping with poor grade Dino-diesel, then you can imagine how much worse they will be on Bio.
It's a real shame, but until a bio-friendly overhaul kit for the engine is developed, we're stuck with Dino. I seem to recall that Prince Charles is (allegedly) running his fleet of Land Rovers on Bio, but then he can afford to keep replacing the pumps and injectors. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

If the price of diesel falls anymore it'll be cheaper than cooking oil per litre

In summary, it softens the seals and fails to lubricate the high pressure pump, sending bits of rubber and steel into your other pumps and injectors, at a probable repair (= replace everything) cost of £000's.
Never seemed to me like a plan! 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

Thanks to everyone who replied and also copies of past posts. For the time being I will keep an eye on the forum and wait for someone to take the jump and run one on Bio-D !

Get the engine tuned. You might (probably wont) save some fuel. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

What kind of statement is that
21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The only reason he would want "bio" is to save money. Cant be to save the planet, its been around long enough without us, doesnt need saving. Anyway dino diesel is from plants, so must be bio too There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song
