Air charge cooler hoses

The air charge cooler hose has oil around the bottome of it and also on the box at the top.

Is this normal or does it indicate replacement is necessary??

Looks normal to me Jamo. Though mine hasn't yet shown these external signs, I do expect it to at some point. I do have a healthy covering inside all the pipes/hoses though, as I found when doing the EGR mod.

My previous turbo'd cars all did the same; it's the minute amount of oil that gets past the seals on the turbo shaft and then gets vaporised by the heat and airflow. It then condenses in the rest of the system, and can also sweat out of the hoses and joints.

My old Volvo 740 had a drain cock on the inter-cooler to cope with the much higher oil losses that older turbos had, and the hoses were so oily you had to use a cloth to get a grip on them.
Oh, and don't assume that 'cos your turbo is 'leaking' a little oil that it's failing, because I believe the leak is by design to protect and lubricate the seals; My 740 covered 220,000 miles of lead-foot driving and the turbo was in perfect condition when I had to let it go.

By the way, there's an air-charge thermometer in the front of the plastic housing; for optimum engine performance, it's worth taking this out and cleaning the (insulating) oil layer off it every now and again. I seem to recall a gentle twist anticlockwise by 90 degrees removers it; just don't stress the wires.

Edit : OK, I've looked at your picture again, and I can't see thethermistor; must be on my MY and not yours.
