HDC Warning message on startup |
|
Appologies if this has been covered else where (I've tried searching but to no avail).
Anyway , I'm not sure if I have an HDC fault or not. I've been getting a HDC fault message momentarily appear when I start the car.
The message only appears for a brief moment as I'm litterally turning the key to fire the engine up. This has only happened when the car is cold (i.e first thing in the morning when I'm setting of to work). It doesn't happen then again the rest of the day , even if I immediatly turn the car off and then restart I then dont get any message and there's no lasting warning indication in the message window.
the message says HDC Fault System Not Available and is then followed by Special Programs Not Available.
Any ideas , as far as I can see there's no other warning lights or messages and the car seems OK (only had it 2 weeks)
for info its 2004 HSE TDV6 Auto box with about 42k on the clock full LR service history.
any advice welcome

After start up and message has gone, have you tried to see if any of your special programs work
Various things have been talked about a bit recently, possibly due to low battery voltage in this cold weather. I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

Amost certainly low battery charge causing this. You might want to get the battery tested, or take the car for a good run if it is doing mainly short journeys.

Make sure your terrain response selector dial is in a notch, it might have been bumped. I remember reading something about LR changing out dials under warranty but it turns out there was nothing wrong with them. My comes up with a similar error so i play with my selector switch and restart the car all good.... I hope this makes sense, I have had a few quite ones

I get several messages like this inc Special Programmes Off when I start up from really cold.
It hasn't bothered me and there has never been any problems.
I just put it down to the cold weather. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

-5c this am and mine has done exectly the same thing. spluttering on start up with flash of a message saying HDC not avalible! It works though. I am putting down to the battery on its way out combined with the cold weather. will be keeping an eye on that for sure though. Hi jammy dodger, where abouts in the West Midlands are you?
Had the HDC and specail programs off three mornings on the trot last cold spell but nothing over the last couple of days. Even when light came on HDC worked and TR was selectable.
Last night our street was iced over and is on a slope so used HDC to slow down when I reached home. Impressed how quickly it slowed down in a perfectly straight line 8)

thanks for all the info . really useful.
Juat some added detail.
I've only had the message on the really ice cold days this last week , up till then it hadn't happened.
I did do a good motorway journey yesterday and oddly enough this morning I didn't get anything. However I did something different this morning. I initially turned the ignition and waited for the glowplug sybol to go off. I then turn off the ignition and immediatly back on , waited for the glowplug light to go out and then fired it up and no message.
Dont know if this is relavent or not but having done another motorway journey today I'll just do my normal engine start in the morning and see what happens.
Also I forgot to mention that having noticed this 'trend' I did select HDC (albeit on the drive) and got the green dash symbol which I think suggests everything was OK.
* BrumLee , I live on the southside of Wolverhampton and work in Walsall so I get a varied journey , some stop start , some flowing duel carriage way and a junction hop on the m-way.
I've got to go to the dealer this week with a wheel aligment / tracking problem so I'll get it checked out anyway
