Disco 2 from Disco 3?

After a great day at Tong, My brother in law wants a discovery. Budget is £7000 max and wants a TD5 ES model with seven seats and must be auto. Does not want more than around 75k miles on it. Lots about at that price but wondered whether anyone on here knew of one that we could trust.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Pete

I reckon if you look hard, you'll spend a lot less than 7K for a decent TD5. If I had 7K, I'd hang on until D3s dropped more, or until I had more money. I wouldn't spend 7K on a D2.

A friend of mine recently paid just over 5K for an ES - great condition, but sensibly he made sure he had enough room in his budget for any electrical/suspension niggles.

I've seen low spec (non air-suspension and non-ACE - less to go wrong) go for 4K - which I think is an excellent buy. Great engines, they'll go on forever. Older ones may have corrosion on the chassis and the start of that awful electrolytic corrosion. I found mine very reliable - a few niggles but never left me stranded.

If you get a Facelift Silver one, I think it's the only way a TD5 doesn't look dated.

The DOC (Discovery Owners Club) forum is a great place for all things TD5.

D3 is better in every possible way - worlds apart.
