As fantastic as this site has been, it seems to have an emphasis on problems with the D3, or how to fix known issues, and very little on true 4x4 issues. I think that it would be great to have a section in the forum dedicated to offroad experience, i.e. what the D3 was actualy designed to do. People could share stories and learn from one another. If you search the site for recovery techniques or 4x4 drivers tips there is very little.
Does any body else share my sentiment or is the Disco3 site doomed to be predominantly about problems/bling mods/pavenment hopping/sound systems etc?
Martin? Any chance of an offroad section in the forum?

Great idea, especially when the off road driving techniques may be slightly different to the tried and tested in the "traditional" 4x4s

Exactly hijack!
For example; the D3 does all the diff locking/traction control/DSC stuff itself, but in my experience steep descents still require command shift 1st gear low range. I don't rely on descent control or the auto box to bail me out when I can see what lies ahead down the hill. Uphill too is sometimes better and smoother in mud and ruts to stay in command shift low range 2nd.

a good idea andrew
felt the same about hdc when coming back down mountain tracks in andorra,i didnt like it.put it in low box 1st or 2nd gear it felt much better and me more in control(sort of)  one life,live it

Not strictly true, usually after an Event (in the event section) we get loads of feedback and photos about peoples escapades.
When it comes to recovery techniques there are regular weekends happening for people to go out an learn these from those who have experience....proper hands on 2004 Discovery 3 - gone

Yes Dom, I accept that, but I was thinking about how useful it would be to have all this info in one easy to find place. We have to scratch around this site to discuss topics to do with what this 4x4 actually designed to do. It's an offroad vehicle and we have no offroad forum!

I agree with Andrew I am keen on learning how best to use the D3 off road and so far have only come across situations where people have no idea about what a D3 can do - even the Land Rover Owners Club of Sydney has very limited experience with these beasts. Having a central repository of tips/tricks for off-road would be great.
