Discovery 3 Engine replacement

Hi All.

Please pardon me if this is not the right forum and for the lack of technical content.
I have a Discovery 3 2008 that may require a new engine and would appreciate guidance from anyone who may have had a similar problem.

Short story is I topped up the radiator tank with water and happily drove down the M1 for about 60 miles until all of a sudden the steering wheel got stuck and the engine stopped !@! Opened the bonnet to find radiator cap slightly off - I am positive it was on- engine wouldn't start and had to get the car towed home.

Rescue attendant tried putting water in the radiator and jump starting the battery to no avail.
Got an independent mechanic to have a look and he says the engine is locked and I need a new one!!
Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry
I have only had the car for five years and am gutted as I am quite careful and only topped up the radiator because I ran out of washer fluid and noticed it was low.

Okay sob story over...would appreciate information on a good landrover discovery specialist near Bedfordshire or any suggestions on what may be wrong

Thanks and Kind Regards

Oh dear, presumably there was no warning that the engine was overheating, or a low on coolant message, before it seized ? Shocked

Not at all.. first indication of trouble was when I noticed the steering wheel was heavy and then all lights flashing on the dashboard

Could well be a coincidence, there have been some engines that have seized coz they lost all their coolant into the V. Your topping up may not have been the cause, catastrophic loss of coolant could have been the cause.

Suggested as a non-techie though. Whistle
