Crumbs aitchy, want you done, broke it and only had it 5 minutes? Seems a bit extreme to me, unless it is to prevent scratching the bonnet during installation

I had a new windscreen at 10 days old (due to a leak). I don't know if they removed the bonnet, but is was a nice, clean job, and has been fine since.

Think it'll be bonnet off or 3 days for SGB to erect a platform for the screen fitters

Bonnet will have to come off to allow the plastic scuttle shroud to be removed.

Maybe the bonnet has to come off to allow for the fitter to lean across. Better to lean on an open engine bay than dent a bonnet.
I recently help the fitter replace the screen on my VW T5 van. It was hell of a job and definately a two man job. The height and getting access to the middle and top of the screen was difficult, even with us both standing on step ladders. It would of been much easier if it was possible to stand on the engine. On my first D3, windscreen needed replacing after three days due to a creeping stone chip. Was done my Autoglass and it did take three hours, although I know the bonnet was not removed.
Autoglass said it would take three hours as the sensors and sealing are quite complex and a " to connect". Once done they advised no pressure washing for seven days to let seat.
All worked fine afterwards, although the car was ultimately replaced due to recurring compressor problems, so could be leaking like Whitehouse intern now?

Had a new screen replaced today, had large crack from stone on the autobahn!
Bonnet stayed on, very clever cheese wire to cut around the bonding, all done in one and a half hours. Paid my exces of £50 but saw the cost of the screen - £836!!!! D4 HSE
