Whilst on holiday, the kids were complaining about a buzz on the headphones when watching DVD's (not LR DVD system, just cheap twin headset things).
Had a listen, unplugged the Fridge just in case it was that, & still the buzz was there.
Not sure exactly what the cause is, but is there an easy way to get like a line suppressor for electrical noise somewhere. I figure it's coming through the 12v system somehow. Whilst I can follow electrical instructions, I can't do resistors & smart stuff like that by myself.
Any ideas/cheap&easy solutions?
Also disconnected the Traxide charging unit to see if it was that TNA
Then when I was connecting the iPhone kit, I turned the Aux volume up to about 20 and you can hear a buzz on there also (without iPhone connected)
So I guess I've got two issues:-
1) to solve the kids electrical line noise, can you get a way to suppress or clean the line noise cheaply?
2) any ideas on this general buzzing (did the same with/without the iphone kit connected) Bodsys Brake Bible

I found that I got poor sound when switching on. I un-plug and plug in again and it improves. Dunno why but it worked for me. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Sometimes get a humm or poor sound out of my Ipod, this is fixed by making sure the plug into the combined power supply and feedin is propley seated in, I think that when this happens its a earthing problem.
You could check all the conections, also with audio and vidio stuff all cables have a shielded cable, the sheild is the braided outer wire cover under the outre plastic coating, this braid should be propley earthed to shield the signels from interference.
May help

I can get a buzz if I disconnect the ipod/archos from the Aux cable but leave ICE in Aux mode.
but never had it happen whilst connected
If you can go to infinity and beyond you may find someone who can help Duncan

I think it's more than just the ipod, the kids got it on their DVD headsets even before I had the iPhone kit installed.
Just wondered if there is an in line suppressor or something that would clean the noise up a bit. It's definately electrical noise. Does this on two different DVD players. Didn't do it on the laptop though, but I would expect that as it has the battery as a buffer for the power.
And just to be sure, I had also unplugged the laptop charger as well, so nothing else plugged in.
Would a ferrous(?) ring make any difference if I wrapped the power adapter cable through it? Bodsys Brake Bible

this buzz. Does it only happen while Mrs Bodsy is smiling?
How are you powering the dvd player? Are you using an accessory socket or has it been wired in? Have you tried the dvd player in another car? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Bods,
from my limited experience in this sort of thing in the past...
does it do the bumble bee impression with the engine running, does the pitch change with engine speed ? - would suggest alternator suppression needed maybe?
does it buzz with the key at ignition position 'I' ? - suggests audio suppression needed or a bad earth somewhere maybe?
does it buzz with the key at ignition position 'II' without engine running ? - suggests one of the aux motors; air suspension compressor, fuel pump etc is the cause maybe?
'discuss' and theeeeennn......???

No, checked that
does it buzz with the key at ignition position 'I' ? - suggests audio suppression needed or a bad earth somewhere maybe?
It's connected directly to the Aux battery (Optima Yellowtop) through a visible (LED) switch and 15a fuse and then on to a multi port 12v adapter. 12v adapter then converts to 9 volts output. I have two of these adapters in the multi-port to power the 2x DVD players. Buzz is also there when only one of the DVD's is on
does it buzz with the key at ignition position 'II' without engine running ? - suggests one of the aux motors; air suspension compressor, fuel pump etc is the cause maybe?
Buzz is there regardless of key position
'discuss'
I'm narrowing it down, I don't think I've checked the DVD player in another car yet, but it's with 2 DVD players so don't think it's the DVD unit (but stand to be corrected!
Further thoughts....? Bodsys Brake Bible

Yup. Three LED's for battery power level (although always seems to show Mid...) and one LED just to show it's on.
