In the interestes of family detente I need to ask about the day tents that appear in the accessory booklets. Has anyone used one of the d3 Tent's? If so, do you really have to have the roof rails to set it up? Zambezi Silver SE / Ebony Leather

I believe, at about £495, they are quite expensive, given you dont get a groundsheet, but I understan it is well made. I think the OEM manufacturer is a company called Khayam (Spelling??).
I think there are better car awnings on the market for the price that are more robust than being just a day tent. If you add the need for roof rails to set up - which I believe is true - comes in quite expensive.
My brother recently bought a large 'proper' tent for £296, can open it up like the day tend, but you could also sleep in it too. We backed the car into it for a snug fit.
My opinion - unless you can pick one up cheaply (eBay) it's a lot of money for LR branding. I'd head to the outdoors shops and see what realy is good value for money. D3 HSE V8...

The "day" tent is a Khyam made bit of kit of very good quality, including integrated fly screens but it is about £100 over priced. Khyam sold a similar product under there own name.
Whilst it dose use the rails this is only to tie back the flap that joins/seals it to the vehicle and you could easily achieve this with a pair of "sucker hooks".

Dom Harvey had one - sold it fairly recently if I recall.
I have a Caranex tent - used to use on old 90 / Ford Galaxy. Didn't need roof rails to fit. Built in groundsheet. It cost around £250 10 years ago- pretty bombproof.
I would really baulk at paying £500 for a LR day tent! Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue
Had it since new - sold Jun 17 after 12 years and 214,000 miles
