Honestly, was my new Disco3 purchase a good one? |
|
Firstly, I am pleased to find this site! Excellent stuff here, well done!
I have just put a deposit on a Disco3, HSE in France. I live some of the year in France and part in the UK. People may be interested to learn that the past price descrepancies between LRs in UK vs France has now closed signifcantly. I bought a DiscoII in the UK and France in 2002...the UK 7 seater TDI was about £31k and the French equivilant came in at about £25k! The French version also had more options...cruise control and more leather!.
I looked at prices in the UK and France for the Disco3, and on first apprearance there seemed to be the same price discrepancy ie about £7k. What I then discovered is that the UK SE is the French HSE. There is not a UK HSE equivilant in France. One has to order the French HSE(equivalant of UK SE) and then add all the options. In conclusion the prices are almost identical using the current exchange rate. I think that Ford is perhaps more commercially switch on!
Anyhow down to the question. I am interested in hearing from people who have taken delivery of their Disco3 and whether there has been any buyer remorse with the various software complaints/problems, in addition to the attitude of the dealers? I still have the option to cancel my order.
In all honesty, I was about to give up on Land Rover having experienced what most owners have over the years (love of the car and design...hatred for the design build and problems). I have read so much positive comments about the Disco3, it stole my imagination and what would have been a BWM or Toyota order become another LR order. I really don't want the same disappointment I have experience for the past 10 years. Any comments? 2017 Disco5 First Edition(On Order)

I've done nearly 1,000 miles in mine and I fall in love more each day. I have had only one problem which was on the day of purchase and was put right straight away. The car is not as slow as people make out, it is a very easy comfortable drive and I'm sure it is more manouverable than my old Freelander and compared even to my parents 04MY DS2 ES is an absolute revolation

Believe me, the D3 is a superb beast. The more I drive it the more I like it. It is a different animal to the D2, and I liked all 4 of my previous D2's but this curent car is lightyears better than any of it's rivals.
I'm more than happy with my TDV6 HSE and wouldn't swap it for the world. Yes it's currently slower than the X5 equivelent diesel, but it is graceful and more composed than it. It floats along and if Clarkson had found the sports mode, he would have necessarily called it slow. Hopefully soon, too other will be experimenting with chipped D3's, on other threads you'll find out more, if you need a bit more performnce, but I believe this car really doesn't need it, its graceful and plenty fast enough.

Buy the Disco! I have only had mine 10 days, but it is the best looking, most comfortable and quietest car I have ever owned (previously a Volvo estate man, inlcuding 2 850 and V70 T5's).
Heck, it's even got a jack to plug my iPod into!

It was in a safety mode that limited the power, it wasn't noticeable in town it was when I went to go up a steep hill there was no power. I took it straight back to the dealer who connected it to test book, found no faults but reset the car and all was fine. It took about 30 minutes, inconvenient because I was going to pick my son up from school, but I still made it on time in the right car

Just buy the car !
3,000 miles and I am still on cloud 9 ! Had a couple of minor issues that have been sorted.
nearly 30MPG (better than most big saloons) and the TDV6 is more powerful than the press give it credit.
The huge boot will allow plenty on wine to be moved from France to the UK too !

Definitely - it's a great vehicle - light years ahead of the Disco 2. However, be prepared for computer based issues & if you have any take no nonsence from the dealers. Plus, as most of us have found, both the sales literature and the owners manuals can be lacking or open to mis-interpretation - if there are any features that you are relyingon being there, have a look through the forums for any comments on them & get the dealer to confirm in writing that it is there and precisely what it will do!

Buy it, it is streets ahead of any other comparable vehicle. I have had mine for 2 months, and done 4k miles. I had a breakdown on New Years day with the suspension and terrain response going into failsafe mode.
This was sorted by the dealer, but I did not get a credible explanation. Dealer reckoned that the car was left in transportation mode during PDI, and offered apologies based on the statement that its a new vehicle "and we are all still learning" Its not recurred since.
There is an issue with software (which you have read about), but this I would expect to be sorted eventually. There is a lot of new technology in the vehicle, which makes it so good. Ask you dealer about the fuel burning heater timer, and lets see what he tells you! Tell him your order relies on it if you want an answer!
The front plastic apron fell off mine, the fasteners were loose.

I took delivery of my (US model) HSE on Dec 21st, and aside from 1 electrical glitch (described below) the truck has been tremendous. I now have 1100 miles on it, it is comfortable, fast (I have the 4.4 liter V-8) and the Terrain Response was spectacular while driving in a big snowstorm last friday.
There are a few things that I find as a bit dissapointing, such as not having 1 touch up and down on all windows, no locking glove copartment, but that certainly was not a deal breaker.
Like on all new vehicles, there are things to get used to, such as the nav system, the cd seeming to continue to run even when listening to the radio (the secret is to make sure that the rear seat listening stations are not set on cd) and the windshield wiper controls. (This is true whenever switching brands)
The glitch I did have was the nav system and voice recognition stopped working, then, after i restarted the car several times, it started again. I spoke to the dealer, and they are going to check it out when i bring it in for a check-up. The only other issue I have, is one of the sun screens over the alpine roof sticks a bit.
So, to sum it up, I am VERY impressed with the build quality, comfort, and functionality of the LR3 (disco3)

Thanks for this Simon. I am more concerned about boot space for kids and dogs than wine. Also occasionally having to pull a stuck tractor out of the vineyards would also be useful! 2017 Disco5 First Edition(On Order)

Mine has Goodyear Wranglers, 255/55HR19 mud+snow radials. Since this is my first truck, much less my first Landy, I have nothing to compare them too!
Cheers!

Are there any Disco3 owners without a complaint about their vehicle and LR customer relations they have experienced lately?
Also, it was too early for motoring editors to call the LR3/Disco3 a better can than the RR, as the the reliability of the RR is far better, and also because of the update.
Who has the flagship engine now, eh... (298kw )
