Drivers seat belt

My drivers side seatbelt takes an age to wind back in, unless I help it along every time I take it off! Rolling Eyes

Is this a common fault? Not had this issue since I rebuilt my Opel Manta GTE Exclusive... and that was after 25 years of abuse! Laughing

EDIT:

Meant to ask... Is it easy to replace, and where to get one? TLO?

Thanks

Mike

Replacements seem to be circa £50 from the bay of evil for a new one... I'm guessing it's the re-coil spring that's failed...

Mine is the same. I am guessing a lot are like this as when viewing D3s most of them had dents in the door card or panel where the buckle had got caught in the door.

Just check that where the seat belt feeds into the trim that the inner and outer trim are lined up as sometimes the inner slot can move and create friction Thumbs Up

Sadly same on my 2010 D4 - worrying about if it will be an MOT fail? The last 2 feet or so of mine don't go in at all unless I 'help' it in.

Right I seem to have fixed mine... well it might still not be lightening quick, but certainly acceptable!

I tried to lower the height using the adjuster on the b pillar, and noticed it seemed stuck and reluctant to move downwards. So with both hands I applied a little more pressure and the adjuster released with a clunk, and not now the belt retracts ok!

Might be worth a try chaps!? Thumbs Up

I had a similar problem with my used 62 plate XS D4. I found that the height adjuster wouldn't lock in position and kept flopping down, as well as the rewind being sluggish.

I noticed that the plastic height adjuster button mechanism and sliding cover weren't aligned the actual real metal workings beneath, causing friction, so decided to pull the trim off and have a better look!

It was a bit of a fiddle, but managed to align to button pressing mechanism properly and now the plastic and metal belt guides are properly aligned and everything works properly - height adjustment locks and belt recoils smoothly all the way.

So just managed to un-stick both my height adjusters....Seems to have done the trick for the drivers seat-belt, but the front passenger is still a bit sluggish - Happy with that as it's the drivers that gets most use Thumbs Up

Checked this morning and my height adjuster is also stuck in the top position. Didn't have time to do anything about it on the drive to work but hopefully when I free it off later it will solve the problem as seems to have done for others.

Impatience got the better of me and I decided to look at it when I came out of work. Gave the adjuster a bit of gentle persuasion and got it moving again and broke it completely in the process Big Cry

The external slider seems to have detached from something inside and the whole adjuster just keeps falling to the bottom and the belt won't retract at all Censored

I can see a white plastic hook shaped thing inside but can't see what it hooks onto or how to take the thing apart.

Wished I had left well alone until had more time and it was light. Will have another look in the morning. It is of course possible that the persuasion wasn't that gentle at all Shocked

Well at least it's one less to worry about! Laughing

The passenger one is probably just miss aligned between the plastic outer and metal inner... have a closer look and see if you can align them.

Feeling you pain fella! It might not be as bad as you think in the light of day...

You obviously don't know your own strength... I did say apply a little pressure Razz

Well in the light of day and with a little more patience I think I have fixed it, just don't ask me how.

Made sure that the plastic outer and the inner were both as low as they would go then lots of wiggling and prodding with a screwdriver inside and suddenly 'click'. Carefully raised it to the top position and it stayed there! Belt now retracting much faster than originally as well. I haven't dared try to lower it again yet (have a long drive today and don't want to be back in the position where it was stuck in the lowest position and the belt wouldn't retract at all like yesterday).

I'm afraid I can't be much help to others with the same problem, I can't identify what makes it stick in the top position in the first place or what I broke when I 'persuaded' it to lower Rolling Eyes

unexpectedly yanking it down fixed mine too! Passenger side was all out of allignment but after some brute persuasion it is now much happier!
