Parking Module - Require Coding? |
|
Hi All
been having some issues with the PAM on my D4 and I've been living with them for a year since I've had the car now. The sensors kick in (or at least you hear the initial beep) when you put the car in reverse. However the actual sensors don't work in that the sounder doesn't sound when getting closer to an object. So I replaced the sensors, or at least the rear ones. For clarity, neither the front nor the rear sensors have ever worked.
I have also replaced the Parking Aid Module (found behind the passenger side rear quarter panel). I've checked the live values and it shows 2.6m and no faults on the IID tool. That is, with a replacement Parking Aid Module from a donor car of the same year (2010).
The interesting thing is that if I connect my original one in, it shows a number of errors on the rear sensors... and this is true with replacement new rear sensors too. What's more is I have checked the wiring from the connectors at the Module, back to the connector behind the tail light (passenger side), and then onwards to each of the sensor connectors - all seem fine. The loom doesn't look damaged either.
So in summary:
With the old module connected I get no sensors working but errors on the rear ones ( I will do another fault read and update this thread).
With the new one connected, I get no sensors working, but no errors.
In the CCF interestingly it has both rear and fronts selected under the config, but in fact it shows two 'configs' - one says 'Config (2010-11), and the other says Config (2012+).
Does the parking aid module, if replaced need coding to the car?
Any help appreciated, parking this car without sensors has been most challenging!

If you’ve replaced the sensors and the parking aid module and still have issues, the only remaining possibility would seem to be the loom section in the bumper. These are a known problem area, and even if it looks fine all there needs to be is a tiny internal short circuit to cause all kinds of chaos. I had similar issues on my old D3 and in the end it was the loom at fault.
I hate to suggest firing the parts cannon again, but that seems to be the only original component left!
