Help . Need to identify a broken switch

Hi . My car will smoke badly for 30 seconds or so when i pull off after I've been in slow or still traffic . So I done the easy things first like cleaning the sensors with cleaning spray, change the air filter and change the oil and filter . My oil filter is on top of the engine. When I removed the oil filter I noticed a rubber pipe has snapped away from a y joint,it has a red electrical connector. It's between the oil filter and the map sensor. I might of snapped but if I did the thing was very weak. The problem is I can't identify what it is I need to buy. It's too dark now for photos
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers mike

If the pipe has grey cross hatch sleeving it will be the fuel temperature sensor.

You need to buy the leak off pipe assembly to get it quickly and at expense.

Thankfully one thing that has come down in price !

Or order just the sensor from Ali express

Brilliant ,That's exactly what I was looking for thanks , i didn't have a clue , nothing was coming up on the net. Just had I quick look how to fit and it looks a job and a half. But needs be.
Was supposed to be taking my caravan to a new site tomorrow,That's why I had a go at finding the smoke problems today . Mrs isn't happy now haha.
Been looking out for a d4 but there still holding good money for half decent age and mileage.
Thanks for the quick reply really appreciated
Mike

The metal clips on the injectors like to ping off and get lost.

So order spare or be very careful

+1 on spare clips.

TIP. Buy a pair of bent locking forceps from your local fishing tackle shop, they are superb for removing and refiting those fiddly spring clips and make sure you fit them the right way round otherwise the pipe may blow off-I speak from experience Whistle

Great idea about the fishing forceps

Funny enough I use fishing line to tie onto the clips so if they ping off they won’t be lost due to the fishing line

Hi Gary...How ya doing Bud ? Thumbs Up

I've had my forceps for donkeys years and they have got me out of many sticky situations, the bent ones are more versatile than the straight type and when I replaced the leak off pipes due to my large hands and the limited access to remove and refit the injector clips especially the ones at the back of the engine I think I would have needed about a dozen spares without the forceps !! It's easy with them to get the clip started then release the forceps and finally click them into place with pointed nose pliers.
Any update on your latest potential Disco project ?

Hi mate

Alas laid up again as I tripped over the edge of a rug so on the sofa , still never mind as there’s always someone worse off than myself so always count myself lucky

Talking of pliers I got a set of these which I’ve found invaluable for removing connectors as the round ones can push the clips on either side of electrical connectors in so they then release

Have another set of pliers that release pushfit fittings seeing I changed all my Voss air suspension fittings to brass pushfits so are perfect as they hold the pipe and then push in the securing outer release ring in

Hopefully mine will be going into a mates workshop around Jan feb time to get the sills and brake pipes front to back replaced, then a fresh mot

Fingers crossed it will last me another 2-3 years as would then like to see if I can move onto a D4, will have to be another diesel seeing the petrol ones are in the 30k range

Hope ur well mate

Thanks . All ordered plus extra clips and forceps.
To be honest it hasn't been a bad car .
It's just the smoke problem now.i did find that the map sensor was gunked right up and it was a little high on the engine oil level. So hopefully I might of solved it,I will find out Friday if all the bits are here.
My Mrs thinks I've spent a fortune on it
But it's been a van my late dad was a horder and I could say that the car paid for it's self by going to the tip rather than paying for a good few skips at £300 a shot . I recon 3 car loads is 1 skip worth and I probably went to the tip 30 / 40 times over 18 months easily. We couldn't put a skip out on the street .he had no drive and it's a narrow Rd .
It's a 7 seater been on loads of trips .
And it's a tow car to tow my caravan and my boys trailer for his ride on mower .
Cheap tax , not to bad on fuel for what it is.
I've done suspension arms , new battery new alternator, compressor , leaky sunroof,
Drop link arms , discs pads , fbh remote thingy.side steps , longer roof rails , new set of wrangler tyres ,transmission flush a couple of times .wheel hubs. Plus other bits all over 6 years. So I don't think it's been a bad car . Considering she's on her 3 car in the same time.
So hope I get it sorted.
Although I have been looking at rr hybrid 14 plate 110 km at £11000 , I've been looking for horror stories on them but only found a couple . So I don't know.

Good Morning Gary...Sorry to hear that Sad I hope you have a quick recovery from it Thumbs Up
I had a quick disconnect tool which was used for the push in fittings but it got lost during the move to France. It was great for use on the RR P38 air suspension and at work as we had loads of pneumatic equipment on the machines at HP where I worked any years ago.
Good news that you are getting your Disco sorted, short days and the chance of colder weather doesn't help Neutral
Good Luck Bow down

Bless u and indeed will be great getting my d3 back on the road , luckily the outer and inner sills are available , got 2 x rolls of kunifer brake pipes and fittings to replace the steel pipes front to back and seems it’s becoming more and more common on the D3 seeinf mine is nearly 20 x years old

As a side note I’ve always wondered if things like sacrificial diodes like placed on boats would ever be beneficial to reduce rust

Sorry to hear that mate of u loosing the pliers, must confess I think from my plumbing and heating days have made up all sorts of different rigs to test air suspension systems in finding leaks etc

Yeh I know I need to get out more Laughing
