Tow Trust fitting tips needed |

Hi all. What I thought would take an hour has now taken me 6, and I’m still barely closer to being finished.
Fitting a Tow Trust TL1 to my 2016 D4, the first fight was getting the main piece into the receiver. Tolerances are tight!! But it only took half an hour, copious wire brushing and a small tap from the medium hammer.
The last 5 hours +brews and swearing have been getting the chassis bushings (the infamous Item K) in, or more accurately, not getting them in.
I swear blind, they don’t fit. They’re too long to go in through the enlarged hole and slide down to the narrower end for a nice straight line through the chassis. By too long, it’s maybe 2 or 3mm. Before I crack out the grinder and nip the tip does anybody have any top tips?
I’ve been in there with a wee rod to avoid dropping them, I’ve had them on the end of a podger and tried hammering the other end of that to make them squeeze down, and various other leverage style options, as well as balancing on my pinky and praying not to drop it. I’ve tried both sides too, so it’s not side specific.

They do sometimes need a couple of mm grinding off the end as they were designed to fit when the chassis was new and had no crud in it... they also need to drop in at a very slight angle so need to be shorter than the gap.
I put them on a wire made from a coat-hanger if I remember correctly so they didn't drop inside I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Yeah, I have starter cord, paracord, skinny files etc that I’m going to use to hopefully not lose them.

Well, that was a piece of cake. 5 minutes with a grinder and file, then 20 minutes to snug and torque. Thats how I’d imagined yesterday going.
For anyone searching this in the future, the chassis bushings each have one end with a very small internal chamfer, about 1-1.5mm deep. It’s probably just the machinist taking off a sharp edge, very small.
Stick it in a vice, hit it with a grinder or flat file down to the bottom of that chamfer, tidy up the edges to not cut yourself and then DON’T LOSE THEM! Slid right in. D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey
