Why shouldn't I buy a D4?

So we recently sold my daughter's D3 and now regret it, and I keep looking at chopping in my L663 Defender and buying a Euro 6 D4.

So the question is, why shouldn't I buy a D4?

The obvious being crank snap risk but what else......?
 New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)

Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)

No longer the Old Buses original owner Sad
231,000 miles and counting
05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder

I’ve just gone the other way again. Just bought a P400 110 and now selling the trusty D4 😢
I do wonder why I’m doing it again but there we are Confused

It's actually to do with age, the youngest is 12 years old, the gearbox - its 6 speed and to some extent the difference in cost. I can get a very nice low mileage HSE Lux with full history for under £20k where as a Jap V8 is nearly £30k. Even if I need a new engine I'm still there or thee about.

I still miss my 2012MY D4, probably the only car Ive ever regretted selling but my confidence and budget dont stretch to a D4 and the risk of the crank snapping sadly.

IYou read a lot about snapped crankshaft issues and yet there are 000's that have no issues.

Are you just unlucky if the crankshaft snaps or is it inevitable in people's opinion.

I read a lot go just after belt change? Is it a possibility the belts are over tensioned Question

I think it does largely come down to luck, given the number of D4's sold the % that suffer crank failure seems very small.
Ive just got a 17 plate Disco Sport with the ingeniboom engine which so far is running fine at 80k miles, but my view now is the same as with the crankshafts. The % of failures compared to numbers of JLR cars sold with the same engine is low (all be it higher in numbers that the D4 possibly)
